MONDAY AUGUST 25
The Day of the Moon in Atziluth, starting off Fireweek of the Virgo Lunar Cycle. At 2:33 am, the Moon enters Virgo and activates the New Moon, which arrives at 7:13 am PT/2°19' Virgo (10:13 am ET). .Virgo represents the period from 13 to 23 years old, when mental growth dominates our lives and many attend institutes of higher learning. Many binding choices are made and the rules and details of society are learned. On the World scale Virgo is between 800 BC and AD 400, when classical civilizations like Greece and Rome flourished, when culture, science, philosophy, politics dominated. By AD 300the Books of the New Testament were chosen to support the beliefs of the Christians who formed the political organization of the Church. The naive excepted the surface value, while initiates were forced to hide (occult) their rituals and teachings. Until now. Even above Earth, there are secrets at the heart of Nature that'd make you laugh till you stopped." How can you believe in astrology?," angry, drunken Basque separatists have asked me. I tell them that astrology is not a belief system, but an archetypal, poetic language. I don't ask you if you believe in Japanese. I ask if you speak it. I don't ask you if you believe in music, I ask if you play it. I happen to speak the heavenly tongue of astrology along with thousands of other highly intelligent, inspiring, spiritual and even scientific astrologers. Mercury sextiles Mars and Saturn, urging us to put thought into practice to accomplish our long-term goals. Venus quincunxes Chiron and trines Uranus, once more focusing our attention on healing our wounds, from the physical to the spiritual and everything in between. The sharpness and precision of this Virgo New Moon are reinforced by the conjunction of pointed Mars and structured Saturn later today, making this a time for committed action. If I never have to deal with angry, drunken Basque separatists who have stolen the Shroud Of Turin again, it'll be too soon. Still, if my destiny is to be an untransformed seed-cum-manure of a man - or to put it another way - if I can at least be the source of unconscious friction that triggers another Christ or Buddha's urgency to awaken, then so be it. Fertilize my ego!
There are plenty of contacts today and tomorrow to promise a potent lunar month ahead. This union between the planets of go and stop requires patience and a strong sense of purpose to transform frustration into productivity. While some may get bogged down with delays and power struggles, concentrated effort makes it possible to break new ground. It's time to get a grip, master a craft, commit to a project, and take control of your life. Purging people and practices, as well as letting go of obligations that have outlived their value, are excellent ways to clear a path to hard-earned self-improvement. Self-discipline, a clear sense of direction and a willingness to work hard make this transit a powerful tool for reaching your goals. The most powerful energy of the day is one that has been building since late July, as Mars conjoins Saturn. Now we have what we need to make “it” happen. In the New Moon chart of the US cast for Washington DC, the focus begins to turn toward the mid-term elections in November. The voting public is showing more understanding of the facts, and a concern for the environment will emerge as the primary concern right now. There is a dig-in and can-do attitude that greets the challenges of the future, as people look to each other for the support they can’t find through the customary means that society has provided in the past. A lack of resources is met with ingenuity. Although foreign conflicts are a worry, the domestic front is more harmonious.
Still, some matters remain hidden from public view for now. The single Sabian Symbol for both Sun and Moon at this lunation (influencing the entire lunar month) is: “two guardian angels bringing protection”. There is benefit in focusing on our inner reality and the role that divine consciousness plays in guiding. and protecting us. However we choose to describe this sense of interaction with hidden influences—fate, protection, guidance, mystery, divine intervention—the element of invisible power is highlighted now. This could also indicate an over-reliance on others (visible or invisible) to take care of our needs and brings up questions of faith and what’s real. Yet protection is assured if we are sincere. Developing new skills and refining existing ones increases efficiency and improves professional status. Establishing healthy habits and eliminating wasteful ones are appropriate now too. There is, though, the frequent Virgo factor of focusing on flaws, which can be discouraging. Tearing oneself down with criticism
is only useful when done with a plan for improving the situation. On the other hand, nebulous Neptune's opposition to this Sun-Moon conjunction can either
waste effort in pursuit of a fantasy or provide inspiration to motivate our efforts. In either case, small steps taken in pursuit of dreams can lead to
successful long-term change.
